Community College Initiative
A New Community College for Idaho's Treasure Valley
Treasure Valley, in southwest Idaho, is the nation's largest urban center without access to comprehensive, high quality, affordable community college education. The nearly 700,000 people who live and work in Treasure Valley and surrounding counties are without access to the same options for higher education that residents of north and central Idaho enjoy through North Idaho College (Coeur d'Alene) and College of Southern Idaho (Twin Falls).
To help address this challenge, the foundation established a Community College Initiative approximately two years ago. The purpose of the initiative was to build public awareness of the need, value and benefit of community colleges and to help find and contribute to a sustainable community college solution in the Treasure Valley. The foundation is among several groups that have worked consistently on a solution to this problem, and now, as a result of everyone's efforts, the Treasure Valley will now develop a comprehensive, affordable, high quality community college -- the College of Western Idaho.
