The tuition rate for the state's newest community college has been approved.

Students will pay $118 for tuition and fees, per credit hour, at the College of Western Idaho when classes start next January.

The CWI Board of Trustees approved the rate today.

The school is currently offering non-credit courses and expects to increase its enrollment numbers when students register for credit classes.

"We plan to start 2,000 - 2,500 lower academic students, we'll have here at this location and we'll also have them at a variety of high schools throughout the valley, especially over in the eastern part of the counties", said College of Western Idaho interim President Dennis Griffin.

In all, full-time students, which means they take 10 credits or more will pay $1,080 per semester.

Students enrolled for 9 credits or less will pay $118 per credit.

In comparison, the College of Southern Idaho charges $105 per credit, while tuition at North Idaho College is $120 per course.
