 CURRENT EDUCATION NEWS FROM STATE AGENCIES:
  • State Department of Education: new teacher pay system proposed

Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Luna is proposing an alternative teacher pay system, known as the Idaho State Teacher Advancement and Recognition System, or ISTARS,  which builds upon the existing teacher pay system to offer bonuses to teachers and certified staff for raising student achievement, working in hard-to-fill positions, moving to a multiyear contract, gaining expertise in multiple subject areas and taking on additional leadership duties. Department officials say ISTARS is a way to recognize and reward Idaho’s great teachers and other certified school staff for the excellent work they do for Idaho’s students every day. ISTARS The $60 million proposal will go before the Legislature in January. To learn more, visit www.sde.idaho.gov/istars.

  • State Board of Education: Scholarship Deadline Jan.15

The Idaho State Board of Education reminds families and students that the deadline for Idaho high school seniors to apply online for scholarships managed by the Idaho State Board of Education is January 15, 2008. For more information, click here.
