Background, Approach, & Goals
Since Joe and Kathryn Albertson started the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation back in 1966, the Foundation’s main focus has been improving education in Idaho. That priority has not changed, but what has changed is our grant making approach. We have become more proactive, with large-scale grant programs like our statewide Reading Initiative and Technology Initiative. We have also broadened our scope of grant making to move from primarily K-12, to K-12 plus higher education. Our Community College Initiative is an example of this. Today, the Foundation has set for itself three strategic focus areas in education with a goal to help measurably increase Idahoans’ postsecondary success. This is a formidable goal that will require multiple tactics to achieve. Therefore, the Foundation is taking a more holistic approach to achieving our goals.
