In-state education agencies/resources

  • Education Alliance of Idaho’s vision it to move Idaho toward becoming a global leader, providing high quality, and cost effective education to its citizens. The core purpose of this coalition of over 25 key Idaho education stakeholders is to provide advocacy and advice to improve education in Idaho.
  • Idaho State Board of Education is charged to provide for the general supervision, governance and control of all state educational institutions, and for the general supervision, governance and control of the public school systems, including public community colleges.
  • Idaho State Department of Education is accountable for the success of all Idaho students. As leaders in education, they provide the expertise and technical assistance to promote educational excellence and highly effective instruction.

Federal agencies/resources

  • National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), also known as “the Nation’s Report Card,” NAEP has been assessing the academic performance of America’s students in a range of subjects since 1969.
  • National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), an agency within the U.S. Department of Education that maintains a comprehensive statistical database providing detailed information on U.S. public schools and school districts
  • U.S. Department of Education Doing What Works takes you to research-based education practices with practical tools to improve classroom instruction.

 

National Organizations & Foundations

  • National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), also known as “the Nation’s Report Card,” NAEP has been assessing the academic performance of America’s students in a range of subjects since 1969.

  • National Center for Higher Ed Management Systems: assists states & national agencies to develop effective policy in higher education governance. Information & technical assistance available to states.
  • National Center for Public Policy & Higher Education  http://measuringup.highereducation.org/: an independent, nonprofit, nonpartisan organization to promote the public interest regarding opportunity, affordability & quality in American higher education.

National Organizations & Foundations

  • Achieve, created in 1996 by governors and corporate leaders, an independent, bipartisan, non-profit education reform organization to help states raise academic standards and graduation requirements, improve assessments & strengthen accountability. (State-level data available)
  • Research and Policy pages of the ACT which produces policy-related publications that describe the implementation of education and workforce solutions, or that focus on a single topic. (State-level data available)
  • The American Association of School Administrators, founded in 1865, a professional organization for more than 13,000 school leaders including superintendents & principals. Their mission is to support & develop effective leaders dedicated to the highest quality public education for all children.
  • Education Commission of the States provides non-partisan information on education policy to help state leaders develop educational systems. Link takes you directly to state-level reports.
  • The Education Trust promotes high academic achievement for all students at all levels—pre-kindergarten through college.
  • The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation mission is to help ensure greater opportunity for all Americans through the attainment of secondary and postsecondary education with genuine economic value they commission research and publish reports.
  • Council of State Governments serves all 3 branches of state government but is a region-based forum that fosters the exchange of insights and ideas to help state officials shape public policy. This link lands directly on the education policy page.
  • Lumina Foundation for Education, an Indianapolis-based, private, independent foundation, strives to help people achieve their potential by expanding access to and success in education beyond high school. (State educational attainment data)
  • Links to the education page at National Conference of State Legislators, a NGO to serve members & staff of state legislatures.
  • National School Boards Association (NSBA) founded in 1940, operates as a federation of state associations of school boards. It represents 95,000 local school board members who govern 14,890 local school districts serving more than 47 million public school students nationwide.[1]
  • Western Interstate Commission on Higher Education (WICHE) 15 member states work to improve access to higher education and ensure student success.
  • Data Quality Campaign: is a national, collaborative effort to improve availability & use of high-quality education data to improve student achievement.
